Josef Albers is an international known abstract painter. His paintings lead to the Minimalist style years later. He also was a or the leading teacher of his time on color. He developed the Homage to the Square image and its variations. Together, step-by-step, I will show you have to draw an Albers’ Square used in Homage to the Square.

We will view his paintings and I will discuss Minimalism; what Albers was doing with his paintings. After being shown how to draw Albers’ Squares, you will have the opportunity to produce six to eight individual paintings each in a different color scheme. Each color scheme will be explained before you begin to paint. You will choose your paint colors in each color scheme.

You do not need to know how to draw to produce successful Albers’ Square paintings You do not need to be an experienced painter to produce wonderful paintings in this style. Likewise, if you are an experienced painter, these paintings are different from realistic painting. You will have a handout to take notes if you wish.
