This course is for both new and experienced painters. Abstract Expressionism paintings are large, very eye-catching paintings. You do not need to know how to draw to produce successful Abstract Expressionism paintings. Before you produce a painting in the style of specific Abstract Expressionist painter, we will discuss the characteristics of that painter and how to paint in that painter’s style. We will probably cover four painters.

Materials:

• Supplies
• 1. Two large plastic sheets to cover your table and floor
• 2. Latex paint -house wall paint
• 3. Paint colors
• a. Black
• b. White
• c. Red, Yellow, and Blue OR at least three other colors you like
• 4. A container to hold water
• 5. Blue or green painter’s tape
• 6. Soft paper towels
• 7. Liquid soap
• 8. 10 or more white Styrofoam bowls
• 9. Painting surface size and number
• a. 18x 24 inch or larger. 4 feet by 8 feet is not too big
• b. Four to six painting surfaces
• 10. Painting surface type
• a. Canvas
• b. Canvas board
• c. Masonite -Gesso before class
• 11. Painting tools
• a. 4 inch flat brush -found at a paint supply store
• b. 2inch flat brush -found at a paint supply store
• c. Medium round synthetic brush
• d. Medium filbert synthetic brush

Objectives:
